From 1980 and up, Johnson and Evinrude outboards used the following letter system to denote the model year. Take the 3rd letter in your model number and then the 2nd to last number and put them together.
For Example: If the Model Number is VE70TLEDA, then ED denotes the Model Year of 1996.
